Are Saint Bernards intelligent?

It would be impossible to discuss the merits of a Saint Bernard as a guard dog without mentioning intellect. A guard dog has to be fast to

distinguish between a known face and a possible threat so that it can take appropriate action when necessary. And a guardian Saint

Bernard will act in that manner. Because they are knowledgeable enough, Saint Bernards can recognize when someone on your

property poses a threat and will bark to let you know. Simultaneously, they are able to discern circumstances in which they

just need to remain composed. Although not usually hostile, an intruder who disregards Bernie's warning will

incur the entire fury of this dog; for a split second, you won't believe they have a composed temperament.
