Healthy Kitten Growth Rate

Cats normally acquire one pound or so per month as a rough rule of thumb. Typically, a kitten weighs

around 1 pound at 4 weeks, 2 pounds at 8 weeks, and so on until it is around 4-5 months

old. Kittens develop the most during the first year of life, both in terms of weight and

height, and then they stabilize. The skeleton of a kitten that is one year old has several

of its growth plates close together. Your veterinarian will usually move your

kitten to an adult food at this point, as most of the growth has stopped.
